Drop-in Workshop: Making Imperfect Baskets with Blessyl Buan

What happens to the art we never had the chance to make?
Join multidisciplinary artist Blessyl Buan for a hands-on workshop exploring creativity through the making of imperfect baskets using reclaimed and everyday materials. Rather than learning traditional basketry techniques, you’re encouraged to experiment, improvise, and embrace unexpected forms. Loose ends, asymmetry, visible repairs, and creative detours are all welcome.
Inspired by Ephemera: The Art We Didn’t Make, an evolving participatory installation and performance premiering at Nuit Blanche Toronto 2026, this workshop invites you to reflect on the ideas, dreams, and creative projects that have been interrupted, postponed, or left unfinished.
No previous weaving experience is necessary. All materials are provided. You’ll have the option to contribute your basket to the growing installation for Ephemera or take it home as a reminder that unfinished ideas can continue to grow.
On TD Community Sunday admission to the museum is free all day. Tickets can be obtained ahead of time or at the door. Book in advance to reserve your spot!
About the Artist
Blessyl Buan is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist whose work brings together choreography, installation, material practice, and socially engaged art to transform public spaces into sites of collective making, reflection, and belonging. Rooted in embodiment through over two decades of dance practice and her former career as a Doctor of Chiropractic working with performing artists, her practice explores witnessing, collective care, and restoring dignity to overlooked voices, histories, and bodies.
Her choreographic work includes BABAElan, commissioned by the Art Gallery of Ontario for the Pacita Abad exhibition and later presented by Dusk Dances and the Citadel Dance Exchange through Citadel + Compagnie and the National Ballet of Canada’s Creative Action programme. Recent projects include Kapwa Kaleidoscope, a solo exhibition at Clark Centre for the Arts; The Dream Weave for Nuit Blanche Toronto 2025; and Weaving Futures, a participatory residency with Toronto Public Library.
She is currently developing Ephemera: The Art We Didn’t Make, a large-scale participatory installation and durational performance for Nuit Blanche Toronto 2026 in collaboration with Toronto Dance Theatre.

*There is a $50 fee per person. General Admission to the museum is included. MOCA Members at the Enthusiast level and above are eligible for workshop discounts.
Visiting Information
TD Community Sundays are always free. Visitors can book in advance to guarantee entry or drop in on the day. The last time slot for entry is 4:45 pm.
Gallery Availability
Most of the museum will be available to enjoy, although please note that some galleries may be closed due to exhibition changeover.
Food and Drink
Food and drink are not permitted in the museum. Food and beverages can be enjoyed inside the café or in the museum’s outdoor spaces.
Child Supervision
Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. TD Sundays are designed for the whole family to enjoy!
