Sin Wai Kin (b. Toronto, Ontario) brings fantasy to life through storytelling in performance, moving image, writing, and print. Drawing on experiences of existing between binary categories, their work realizes alternate worlds to describe lived experiences of desire, identification, and consciousness. The artist’s film, A Dream of Wholeness in Parts (2021), was nominated for the 2022 Turner Prize. Recent and upcoming solo exhibitions include: Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Soft Opening (London), MUDAM (Luxembourg), Accelerator (Stockholm), Fondazione Memmo (Rome), Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb), and Taipei Contemporary Art Centre. Sin’s work has been presented in group exhibitions at Taikwun (Hong Kong), British Museum (London), Polygon Gallery (Vancouver), and Shedhalle (Zürich), among others. The artist’s work is held in the collections of the British Museum, Ingram Collection of Modern British Art, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Sunpride Foundation (Hong Kong), and M+ Museum (Hong Kong).
For GTA24, MOCA will present A Dream of Wholeness in Parts (2021), a film that was nominated for the 2022 Turner Prize, alongside three face wipes: imprints of the characters played by the artist in the film, made when they removed their makeup at the end of shooting each day in Taipei.
