Join Canadian interdisciplinary artist, Nava Waxman, for a creative experience of gestured mark making. During this session, participants will use improvisation, sound, and movement to explore mark making and drawing, inspired by the current exhibitions of Shirin Neshat, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, and Debashis Sinha. In addition, this workshop is strongly tied to Waxman’s own art practice which focuses on the transient nature of gesture and their complex artistic, cultural, and personal registries.
Each mark making session will take place on the ground floor of MOCA, though participants may be asked to venture to the second and third floor in order to garner a fuller understanding of the exhibition content.
This workshop is geared towards all ages and allows for even the youngest visitors to partake. Each session will make use of a variety of mark making tools in a range of coloured and textured outcomes.
Artist Bio
Nava Waxman is a Canadian interdisciplinary artist working with visual and time-based media, including performance, choreography, screendance, moving-image and immersive installation. Born into a Moroccan, Judeo-Amazigh immigrant family, her practice engages with notions of identity, memory, liminality, and the body as an archive.
