On Sunday, October 4, join exhibiting artist Delcy Morelos for a tour of her exhibition Ombligo. In dialogue with MOCA’s Artistic Director, Rui Mateus Amaral, Morelo will offer an intimate look at her extraordinary new project, sharing insights into her creative process, cultural reference points, and the ideas and material decisions that shaped this major site-specific commission.
Rooted in her relationship to the land in her native Colombia, Morelos’s practice reflects both the earth’s nourishing, regenerative strength, and the violence of dispossession. On Floor 2, Ombligo follows the contours of a womb and is woven from long strands of sisal rope treated with soil and corn roots. Pulling inspiration from the ingenuity of the spider, Morelos spins and weaves a sensory web that binds, catches, shelters, and nurses. Ombligo’s looming physical presence, fragrance, and texture, creates a space for reflection on sustenance, ritual, migration, extraction, and restoration.

About the Artist
Delcy Morelos (b. 1967, Tierralta, Córdoba, Colombia) is a Colombian artist based in Bogotá. Working across painting, sculpture, and installation, Morelos creates powerful environments that engage the earth as both medium and metaphor, exploring themes of spirituality, memory, and the intertwined histories of land, labour, and colonialism.
