Kick off MOCA Toronto’s spring season with an inspiring edition of Artist x Artist!

Join us for an illuminating conversation between renowned artist Jessica Stockholder, whose solo exhibition will be on view at MOCA, and the celebrated artist Julia Dault. Moderated by MOCA’s Artistic Director, Rui Mateus Amaral, this exchange will dive into the artists’ creative practices, exploring the intricate relationships between painting and sculpture, art and language, logic and spontaneity, and private and public space.

Stockholder’s exhibition, The Squared Circle: Ringing, runs from April 17 to August 3, 2025, alongside compelling exhibitions and projects by Margaux Williamson, Justin Ming Yong, and Jennie C. Jones.

This special offsite conversation will take place at Paradise Theatre, located at 1006c Bloor St W, Toronto. Doors open at 7 pm, with food and beverages available for purchase.

About the Artists

Born in Seattle (b. 1959), Washington, Jessica Stockholder currently lives and works in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Her extensive exhibition history spans museums, galleries, and biennials internationally, including Frac Normandie, Rouen (2023); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2021); OGR – Officine Grandi Riparazioni, Turin (2021); Centraal Museum, Utrecht (2019); The Contemporary Austin (2018); Fundación Barrié, Vigo (2012); The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield (2011); Palacio de Cristal, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (2010); Denver Art Museum (2009); Vancouver Art Gallery (2006); GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Turin (2006); Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2004); BAC – Baltic Art Center, Visby (2003); CAPC – Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux (2003); Kunstverein St. Gallen (2001); Venice Biennale (1997); Dia Center for the Arts, New York (1995); Fundación “la Caixa,” Barcelona (1995); and Kunsthalle Zurich (1992).

Julia Dault’s paintings and sculptures have been featured in the New Museum’s triennial and the Marrakesh and Gwangju Biennales as well as in group exhibitions at the Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam; the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; the Pérez Art Museum, Miami; the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; and MOCA Toronto. Her solo exhibition at the Power Plant, Toronto, and the Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver was accompanied by her first monograph, published by Black Dog Press. Her art is included in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the MCA Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Her public art can be seen in Toronto and, soon, in Vancouver. She is represented by Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York and Galerie Bradley Ertaskiran, Montreal.
