About the Artist

apè is a Filipinx-Canadian artist working in electronic music and experimental sound. She attempts to create sonic works that gently ask one to question socio-political systems and reality, as well as share hidden stories through abstract sound. Her most recent project SIMULA is an 8.2-channel sound installation that takes us on the emotional journey of giving birth. SIMULA is composed of the sounds of three racialized mothers giving birth blended with electromagnetic sounds from a hospital. apè performs live hardware dance music with her duo Phèdre. She is the Artistic Director of Venus Fest and teaches arts related courses at the university level with a focus on inclusivity.
