Join us at MOCA this Community Weekend for workshops and drop-in tours that bring the exhibitions of Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, Alex Da Corte, and Tishan Hsu to life. Led by visiting artist Soyeon Kim and museum educators, these guided activities invite visitors to engage in conversations about contemporary art inspired by our fall exhibitions.

Saturday Artist-led Workshop: Watercolour Scene Diorama with Soyeon Kim

Saturday, January 4

Create your very own 3D diorama in this three-hour-long watercolour workshop led by illustrator Soyeon Kim! Participants will learn the basics of diorama-making and watercolour collage art while engaging in creative discussions about imagination and narratives explored in their exhibitions at MOCA, by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas in Diaries After a Flood and Alex da Corte in Ear Worm.

This workshop is intended for participants who are interested in developing and improving their watercolour painting techniques and exploring a new way of displaying their work. 

Registration is required for this programme.

About Soyeon Kim

Soyeon Kim is a Korean-born artist and educator currently living in Ontario. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts and Bachelor of Education from York University. As a children’s picture book illustrator, Kim has published: You Are Stardust, Wild Ideas, Is This Panama? Sukaq and the Raven, You Are Never Alone, A Last Goodbye, Once Upon an Hour, and When Sunlight Tiptoes. Kim participated in TD Book Week 2018 and 2022, visiting schools and libraries across Canada.

TD Community Sunday: AI: Artists Intelligence

Curious about AI (Artificial Intelligence)? This TD Community Sunday, you become the AI.

Join MOCA’s Art Educators for a kid-friendly introduction to machine learning and artificial intelligence, using creative games and arts activities. Show off your own artistic intelligence through collaborative watercolour paintings based on prompts. 

No registration required.

Community Weekend Schedule

Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. These programmes are designed for the whole family to enjoy!

Saturday

1 & 3 pm Family-Friendly Tour

1-4pm Artist-led Workshop*

*There is a fee of $10 per person. General Admission to the museum is not included. MOCA Members at the Individual level and above can access these workshops for free.

Sunday

11–4 pm: All Ages Drop in workshop*

1 & 3 pm Family-Friendly Tour

*Admission and workshops are free for all visitors on TD Community Sunday.
