Join us for our first Family Weekend of the season to explore portraiture in relation to families, collectivity, and self-representation. This month’s workshops draw inspiration from Dancing in the Light, an exhibition of works from The Wedge Collection which uses portraiture across a number of mediums for a nuanced presentation of Black life. Each day’s activities will explore portraiture across a range of mediums.

Workshops with Emily Joyce

Saturday, October 7

Join art conservator and artist Emily Joyce for an introductory workshop on portraiture that will explore proportions, representation, and various drawing techniques. This workshop will also invite participants to question what portraiture is and how it can be defined.

Registration is required for these workshops as there is limited capacity.

TD Community Sunday

Sunday, October 8

Join MOCA’s Arts Educators for an all-ages, drop-in activity exploring portraiture from the angle of self-representation. Taking a cue from Dancing in the Light, visitors will use diverse media to create self-portraits that play with self-representation and draw from lived experiences.
