Drop-In Activities: Threading Together
Friendship Bracelets
Learn how a simple thread can be tied and transformed into unique and colourful patterns. Inspired by the fibre-based works in Kimsooja’s Dimensions of a Needle, this activity considers how we carry, wear, and share art, emphasizing its ability to connect people across various identities and communities. When you gift a friendship bracelet to someone, consider the wish you have for your friend. People say that when the bracelet falls off, that wish will come true!
Colourful Columns
This activity is inspired by the architectural columns on each floor of MOCA. Learn to create your own pompoms through the meditative steps of wrapping, cutting and bundling, evoking the slow making process of Kimsooja’s bottaris. Transform your pompoms into hanging columns by threading them together with a plastic tapestry needle. Learn fundamental sewing skills, such as threading a needle, tying off with knots, and confidently using a needle and thread.
65th Toronto Outdoor Art Fair
Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF) is Canada’s leading outdoor and online art fair. Established in 1961 to connect Canadian artists directly to the public, TOAF showcases 400+ emerging and established visual artists, including painters, photographers, sculptors and artists working in ceramics, textiles, jewellery and more. This free public event takes place every July—rain or shine—at Nathan Phillips Square in the heart of downtown Toronto. The Fair offers something for everyone: talks, tours, digital studio visits, curated collections, kids workshops, dance, music, art installations and food and drink experiences.
