Join MOCA on November 5 for our Monthly Reading Sessions, developed in partnership with Groundwood Books. Multidisciplinary artist Claudine Crangle will read from her picture book The House Next Door. Crangle will also lead an arts-based activity with our Arts Educators where participants can make their own paper houses, exploring artistic expression as they create a community. The reading and activity will both take place on our ground floor. This reading series builds on the collection of children’s books sourced from Groundwood Books and Another Story Bookshop as part of Jeffrey Gibson’s exhibition I AM YOUR RELATIVE, which took place earlier this year.
The House Next Door will be available onsite for purchase. Participants will also have the opportunity to have their book signed by Crangle.
Following the reading, visitors are invited to join a free drop-in tour of Seeing the Invisible, starting at 2 pm. Spaces are limited. Learn more here.
Bio
Claudine Crangle is a multidisciplinary artist whose picture books include The House Next Door, Priscilla Pack Rat and Woolfred Cannot Eat Dandelions. As a kid who loved to make things out of cereal boxes, she hopes that her books will inspire creativity and construction. All of the houses in The House Next Door were made of cardboard, paper, found objects and various other materials scavenged from recycling bins where Claudine lives, in Toronto, Ontario.
