Join MOCA on October 1 for the relaunch of our Monthly Reading Sessions, developed in partnership with Groundwood Books. Writer Cary Fagan will read from his upcoming picture book Boney, illustrated by Dasha Tolstikova. Fagan will also lead an arts-based activity with our Arts Educators that, like the book, explores our relationship to the natural world. The reading and activity will both take place on our Ground Floor. This reading series builds on the collection of children’s books sourced from Groundwood Books and Another Story Bookshop as part of Jeffrey Gibson’s exhibition I AM YOUR RELATIVE, which took place earlier this year.
Boney will be available onsite for purchase. Participants will also have the opportunity to have their book signed by Fagan.
Following the reading, our Arts Educators will be offering free, family-friendly tours of the exhibitions starting at 2 pm and 3 pm
Bio
Cary Fagan has written many acclaimed books for children. He is the recipient of the Vicky Metcalf Award for Young People for his body of work. He has also won the Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award, the IODE Jean Throop Award, a Mr. Christie Silver Medal and the Joan Betty Stuchner — Oy Vey! — Funniest Children’s Book Award. His picture books include A Cage Went in Search of a Bird, illustrated by Banafsheh Erfanian, and Son of Happy, illustrated by Milan Pavlović, which was named one of the Best Canadian Picture Books of 2020 by CBC Books. He has visited schools and libraries across the country and his books have been translated into French, Italian, German, Dutch, Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, Turkish, Macedonian, Persian, Russian, Polish, Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
