Join exhibiting artist Xuan Ye for an informal meet and greet within their exhibition It Takes Spirals to Feed the Spiral. Ye will provide a short tour of their work and be available to answer any audience questions.
This event replaces the originally promoted conversation between Ye and Debashis Sinha, which has been postponed.
Through ongoing research into spirals as an archetype, Ye reimagines conceptions of space and time. The exhibition looks at how spirals repeat themselves in the smallest components of life and the largest forces in our universe; in their practice, Ye refers to nanoscopic imagery that reveals the double helix structure in DNA, and telescopes that make visible the spiral formations of galaxies.
Biography
Xuan Ye 叶轩 makes publications, installations and performances through a myriad of technologies, often involving improvisation and computation. They work with more-than-human networks such as the Internet, machine intelligence, electronic circuits and living matters to experiment with multi-sensory world-building. The artist has been featured and exhibited internationally, including the Venice Architecture Biennale, Centre de Design de l’UQAM à Montréal (CA), Fonderie Darling (CA), Varley Art Gallery (CA), the Art Gallery of Ontario (CA), Inside-out Art Museum (CN), the Goethe-Institut (Beijing & Montreal), ArtAsiaPacific, KUNSTFORUM (GE), among others. Their live performances and music releases have received critical accolades from Bandcamp, Musicworks and Exclaim!.
