Join MOCA on January 12 at 7 pm for the fifth instalment of our Friday Night Performance Series, debuting two new solo acts by poet and artist Stephen Jackman-Torkoff and writer Cason Sharpe. Inspired by Dancing In The Light, Jackman-Torkoff and Sharpe will present intimate portraits of contemporary queer Black life through oral poetic performance art.
About the Artists
Stephen Jackman-Torkoff is a wandering poet and artist. They seek to take us into a world of imagination, like Willy Wonka. Through art and performance they delve into the enormity of love, of grief, and the simple but infinite power of connecting with other people.
Cason Sharpe is a writer currently based in Toronto. His fiction and criticism have appeared in Canadian Art, C Magazine, Public Parking, In The Mood Magazine, Brick, PRISM International, and the Hart House Review, among others. His first collection of stories, Our Lady of Perpetual Realness, was published by Metatron Press in 2017. Named a Queer Writer to Watch by THIS Magazine, Cason has presented work at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Vancouver Art Book Fair, the Prairie Art Book Fair, and the Hamilton Film Festival.

MOCA will be activating our Free Friday Nights powered by Scotiabank every month on select Fridays throughout the fall 2023 exhibition season. These evenings will feature free, drop-in performances by Toronto-based artists, highlighting the talents of the city through movement, sound, and art-making.
