Saturday Workshops

Saturday, April 6

MOCA welcomes participants to explore the world of zine-making and self-publish their own creative work in this workshop led by the Toronto Zine Library. Registration is required for this programme. This programme includes a child and adult-centered workshop. Timing for each included below.

About the Artist

The Toronto Zine Library (TZL) is a free public collection operated by zine readers, makers, and librarians. They believe that zines are an important medium of communication, and that they should be promoted, protected, and cherished. TZL provide access to a large archive of zines, conduct workshops, and hold events promoting zines as an alternative to commercial media and a vehicle of free expression.

Let’s Make Zines! Child-centered Workshop

Join the Toronto Zine Library for a casual no-experience-necessary workshop on zine culture. We will provide examples of easy zine-making formats to engage with artistic self-expression in response to themes of the GTA24 exhibition. This is a family-friendly event!

Detouronto Adult-centered Workshop:

With psychogeographic techniques inspired by the artist and zine-maker, Laura Oldfield Ford, this workshop will invite participants to creatively engage with the works exhibited in MOCA’s Greater Toronto Art 2024 and expand on themes of place and memory.

TD Community Sunday

Sunday, April 7

For April’s TD Community Sunday at MOCA, your favourite foods become works of art! Participants are invited to bring a written copy of a family recipe for inspiration as kids will get the chance to draw their favourite dishes. Together, families will begin to create a handmade illustrated family cookbook. This workshop will connect with the upcoming Live Programme Substitution: a Meal on May 13, featuring artist Richard Fung.
