MOCA recently published Mixed Drinks, a petite publication developed by Montreal-based artist Dean Baldwin Lew.
This “recipe” book was created in response to MOCA’s current installation, untitled 2013 (thomas demand’s here) by Rirkrit Tiravanija, an active karaoke bar that is a part of MOCA’s current exhibition, Thomas Demand HOUSE OF CARD. The book showcases a series of mixed drinks from over 50 local and international artists, including “recipes” from exhibiting artists Rirkrit Tiravanija, Thomas Demand, Martin Boyce, and Kelly Jazvac.
Dean’s playful intervention adds a roster of “favourite/alternative” drinks proposed by a broad art community that Dean/MOCA/Rirkrit hold a relationship with.
About the Artist
Dean Baldwin Lew gambols across installation, social practice, and photographic media. Among other mixed roots, he is descended from the Chinese bachelor society of turn-of-the-century Toronto and is the current generation of an unbroken line of family restaurateurs. As such, he iterates on themes of hospitality, conviviality, performative still-life, and the structural discrepancies around which we pivot.
He lives in Montréal; he makes wine.
