Saturday Artist-led Workshop: Rug Hooking with Hanna Eidson

Saturday, May 3, 2025
 | 1:00 pm
 – 4:00 pm
 | Cost: $100

Join artist Hanna Eidson (aka H.H. Hooks) for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the basics of rug hooking and create your own coaster-sized textile piece.

Over three hours, you’ll explore the craft and have plenty of time to practice with guidance from Hanna. Rug hooking is the process of pulling loops of wool through stretched linen to form vibrant patterned and textured works of art.

All materials are provided—including a rug hook, wool, embroidery hoop, and linen. Choose from one of Hanna’s original designs or come up with your own!

Presented by MOCA Toronto in partnership with Noble Space, this workshop takes inspiration from Justin Ming Yong’s textile installations, currently on view in MOCA’s elevators and North End Gallery. Along the way, we’ll touch on the history of textiles as both art and craft.

Registration is required for this programme.

About the Artist

Hanna Eidson is a fibre artist specializing in hand-hooked and machine-tufted rugs, as well as sculptural pieces. She lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with her 11 year old former Nepali street dog, Ganga.

Originally from San Luis Obispo, California, Eidson grew up in a family that encouraged crafting. She moved to Canada in 2012 to attend McGill University where she studied Religious Studies and Anthropology, graduating in 2016.

After university, she relocated to Nova Scotia where her love of fibre art was quickly re-kindled. Her mom signed them up for a rug-hooking class and Hanna was “hooked” immediately. Since then she has added tufting to her repertoire, but rug hooking by hand will always be her first love.

Hanna’s excited to come to Toronto and share some East Coast crafting with you!
