Join scholar Shabnam Rahimi Golkhanden for a one-hour tour in Farsi on MOCA’s second floor, offering her response to Shirin Neshat’s exhibition Land of Dreams. Shabnam Rahimi Golkhanden is an Art Historian and archivist, currently in charge of the Tavakoli Archives in Toronto. This programme will focus on Neshat’s exhibition at MOCA—the artist’s first major exhibition in Canada in 20 years.
Rahimi Golkhanden’s insights will produce an engaging dialogue that draws connections between Neshat’s luminous practice and the presentation of work at MOCA. The audience will have a chance to ask Rahimi Golkhanden questions as the tour progresses through the exhibition.

Biography
Shabnam Golkhandan is an Art historian and archivist, currently in charge of the Tavakoli Archives in Toronto. Shabnam is also a doctoral candidate at the Department of History of Art at Yale University. Previously, Shabnam held research fellowships both at the Yale University Art Gallery and before that in the Freer|Sackler Archive at the Smithsonian. Her academic history also includes a master’s degree in the history of Modern Middle East and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, both from the University of Toronto. Shabnam’s academic interests include, along with the broader subject of the history of Modern Middle East, the historiography of Islamic art, the intermingling of text and image in the pictorial arts of the Middle East through the centuries, and the relationship between photography, painting and print in the last half of 19th century in Iran.
Shabnam brings her diverse archival experience, rooted in extensive research in various state and private institutions around the globe and in the Middle East, to her current role as the director of Tavakoli Archives. Shabnam’s variety of experiences has afforded her a globally aware frame of reference steeped in vernacular modes of inquiry and practice in places such as Cairo, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Tabriz, Tehran, Mashhad and Bombay.
