Join Toronto-based artist, Justin Ming Yong for an in-depth tour exploring his exhibition, Blur, currently on view at MOCA. Yong will share insights into his process and the ideas behind his site-specific installation, which features handmade quilts that transform both the North End Gallery and elevators into immersive art spaces.
Drawing on a craft passed down from his mother, Yong reinterprets traditional quilt-making through layered prints, bold patterns, and geometric forms. Although his process generally begins with sketches, Yong often embraces spontaneity, allowing each piece to unfold in unexpected ways. His quilts speak to the many histories and functions of the medium—offering warmth and protection while serving as symbols of connection, protest, survival, and memory.
In the elevators, these works offer a moment of stillness and unexpected comfort in a space often marked by transition and uncertainty.
This is a unique opportunity to experience the exhibition through Yong’s perspective and discover how these vibrant works reshape not only the space but the way we move through it.
Registration is required. Ticket includes general admission.
