Join artist and yoga instructor Leeay Aikawa for a free virtual workshop called “Body, Mind and Creativity: Drawing with Yoga-Inspired Movements.”
In this workshop, we will explore what it means to listen to our bodies, be in the moment and discover how our bodies can be a creative instrument to express our hidden voice. Inspired by yoga movements, we will playfully bring together our body, mind and spirit to create an experimental drawing. How might drawing this way help us to let go of our worries about aesthetic outcomes?
Materials needed:
- Yoga mat
- Drawing materials of your choice, such as chalk or pencils
- Drawing paper (the larger the better to allow big movement!)
- Comfortable clothing that can be easily washed
About the Artist:
Spanning a vast array of media, Leeay Aikawa’s current focus is investigating the relationship between ‘making,’ ‘knowing,’ and ‘being’ with a strong emphasis on the process of ‘becoming’ and ‘healing.’
With her repeated mantra 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒙 𝑵𝒐𝒘 = 𝑯𝒐𝒘, she attempts to be in touch with the moments of the divine and the living spirit of the Earth through making. Such an inquiry emerges from her background as a yogi/ yoga instructor. She recently obtained an MFA from OCADU.
