Performer Biographies
Masahiro Takahashi is a Japanese musician currently based in Tkaronto/Toronto. He uses electronic instruments and software to create thoughtful compositions and utilizes sound design techniques to form an evocative soundscape. His work has been released on various labels in Canada, US and Belgium, including “Flowering Tree, Distant Moon (Telephone Explosion Records/Not Not Fun)”, “Omnipresent Windows (Jj Funhouse)” and ”Music of inside the snail’s shell (Slow Editions)”.
Phèdre is an electronic duo from Tkaronto/Toronto, comprised of sound artist April Aliermo and producer/musician Daniel Lee. Originating in experimental-pop realms, their richly-textured compositions have grown into instrumental sets of high-bpm rhythmic soundscapes, performed live using sequencers and synthesizers. The ever-changing bass-heavy sets pay tribute to club, breakbeat, jungle and techno, while maintaining Phèdre’s own unique sense of musical beat exploration. Phèdre has toured in Canada/USA, Mexico, EU/UK, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Russia and Lebanon. They recently performed at Mutek Montreal.
Festering in the greasy underground of Planet Ontario since the Northeastern blackout of 2003, Man Made Hill is the one-man funk convulsion of Randy Gagne. Currently based in the Hammer-zone, Man Made Hill tracks a continually mutating public persona from the primordial murk of basement, noise tape music to modern-day maniacal pop performance art. Utilizing vivid characterization, bewildering sensuality and raw and urgent electronics, Man Made Hill has honed a unique combo to probe the depths of the entertainment world – all cryptically narrated with his patented ghoulish crooning, and a desperate dance in the face of existential despair.
