MOCA Community Weekend

December Community Weekend

Saturday, December 7, 2024
 – Sunday, December 8, 2024
 | Cost Varies
Saturday: 1 pm–4 pm, $10 per person | Sunday: 11 am-4 pm, Free, Drop-in

This community weekend, we invite you to join us for a series of tours and workshops that explore themes of memory, nostalgia, and play, inspired by Alex Da Corte’s exhibition Ear Worm at MOCA.

Saturday: Polaroid Emulsion Lift with Cruz

Saturday, December 7

In this three-hour workshop led by artist Cruz, participants will explore themes from Da Corte’s Ear Worm by transforming a personal photograph to create a Polaroid emulsion lift.

Email your photograph ahead of time to learning@moca.ca by Friday, December 6, to be printed on specialized paper.

Through this process, the photographic emulsion is removed from an instant print and transferred to paper, where participants will apply collaging techniques to complete their artwork.

Registration is required for this program. After signing up, participants must email their chosen photograph to learning@moca.ca to be printed on the specialized paper needed for the activity.

About Cruz

Cruz is a first-generation Filipino artist based in Mississauga and Toronto. Her work delves into the depths of human emotion, often drawing from her personal experiences with mental health.

Primarily recognized as a lens-based artist, Cruz frequently ventures into diverse creative realms, often intertwining mixed media and poetry in her expressive explorations.

TD Community Sunday: Cozy Glove Puppets

Sunday, December 8

Join us for the last TD Community Sunday of 2024 and get cozy as you create your own mitten puppets. Inspired by Alex Da Corte’s exhibition at MOCA, this free drop-in programme will transform your mittens and gloves into fun puppets using felt, buttons and other craft materials.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own mittens to upcycle into puppets. All craft materials will be provided.

This programme is free and no registration is required.
