December Family Weekend: Bins, Boxes & Pots

Saturday, December 2, 2023
 – Sunday, December 3, 2023
 | Cost varies
Saturday, December 2, 2023 | 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm | $5 per person | Sunday, December 3, 2023 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm | Free | Drop-in

Join us for our December Family Weekend, which will focus on vessels in their many forms. A vessel can be a container, a ship, a cocoon, a home. Experiment with making moulds, containers, treasure boxes, and much more to explore themes of habitations, personal belongings, and transformation.

These activities draw inspiration from the sculptures in Liz Magor’s exhibition, The Separation, as well as her wider practice.

Workshops with Alyssa Alikpala

Saturday, December 2

Join artist Alyssa Alikpala for a workshop exploring discarded materials and found objects and transforming them into hanging sculptures.

Registration is required for these workshops as there is limited capacity. Admission is not included in the Workshop fee.

About the artist

Alyssa Alikpala is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and researcher working across sound, sculpture, fibre, installation, and ephemeral forms. Through a practice of gathering, she considers embedded cycles and histories of the organic, found, and discarded materials that are used. Her ongoing interventions with wheatpasted grass and other plant matter respond to time, place, and conditions of the built and natural environment and ultimately accept their impermanence.

TD Community Sunday

Sunday, December 3

Immerse yourself in activities centred around vessels. Using a range of materials, children and families will explore making sculptural vessels as containers for personal stories and experiences, taking inspiration from Liz Magor’s mylar box sculptures and her use of everyday objects in her artistic practice.
