Presented within Margaux Williamson’s Shoes, Books, Hands, Buildings, and Cars at MOCA, this live performance investigates surface, perception, and the present moment in dialogue with the exhibition.
The evening opens as pianist Stephanie Chua performs Morton Feldman’s For Bunita Marcus, a 75-minute solo work renowned for its quiet intensity and spacious beauty. As the final notes dissipate, composer and sound artist Allison Cameron joins Chua in an improvised soundscape that responds intimately to Williamson’s paintings.
Together, Chua and Cameron mirror Williamson’s layered visual compositions, where everyday objects and multiple perspectives coexist. Drawing from Feldman’s resonant, durational style, their performance extends this sensibility into the physical realm, sounding the inside of the piano to create a tactile, immersive sonic experience.
This performance is part of MOCA’s Free First Friday Nights. Admission is Free from 5–9 pm. Tickets can be obtained ahead of time or at the door. Book in advance to reserve your spot!
About the Artists
Stephanie Chua is an expressive and versatile Canadian pianist devoted to presenting and performing contemporary works through musical insight and innovative programming. She has been broadcast across Canada on CBC Radio 2 and in Europe on Rondo Classic FM and has performed in solo and chamber recitals across Canada, Europe, and Asia.
As a much sought-after collaborative pianist, Stephanie has performed in some of Canada’s most important contemporary ensembles including Arraymusic, Continuum Contemporary Music, Esprit Orchestra, New Music Concerts, and Trio Fibonacci. In 2009, Stephanie co-founded junctQín keyboard collective with Elaine Lau and Joseph Ferretti, and they recently launched the digital platform PLAYrePLAY (playreplay.ca) with funding from the Canada Council for the Arts, featuring three breakthrough interactive compositions.

Allison Cameron has been a fixture in the Canadian experimental music landscape since the 1990’s. Cameron is an innovative composer, performer, and sound artist whose work spans chamber music of a rich array of styles and instrumentations to improvisation. Her carefully crafted scores have been performed by the likes of Arraymusic, Eve Egoyan, Bang on Can, Apartment House, Contact, Ensemble Supermusique, Lori Freedman, and other key interpreters. Meanwhile, her music appears on such notable imprints as Experimental Intermedia, Redshift, Rat-drifting, and is awaiting release on celebrated English label Another Timbre. Her idiosyncratic and captivating solo performances blend the sounds of various acoustic instruments, found objects, toys, consumer electronics and field recordings to produce liminal textural spaces that both demand and interrogate the listener’s attention.
