Make the most of this June 6 PA Day with a hands-on quilting workshop at MOCA, where you can dive into the rich history of quilting through shapes, patterns by designing your own paper quilt. Families with school-aged children are welcome to drop by to view our current exhibitions and learn about how blankets can be works of art.
Learn how quilts use small shapes to create a large work of textile art by using pre-cut shapes to create a unique patterned creation. Finally, add details like stitching and surface texture with markers and crayons to make your design look like fabric!
This activity is inspired by Blur, a new site-specific project by textile artist Justin Ming Yong. Taught how to quilt by his mother, his handmade quilts have transformed MOCA’s elevators and North End Gallery into immersive art spaces.
We invite children grades K–8, supervised by an adult, to drop by and join the fun!
This activity is free with admission. Book ahead, or acquire your ticket at the door.
