Join us for Art Hive at MOCA, our drop-in art programme that invites the whole community to stop by and create! This free programme runs bi-weekly on Monday evenings from 5–8 pm.
On May 26th, forget about writer’s block with this week’s Art Hive! Inspired by MOCA’s current exhibitions, you’re invited to wrestle with words; erasing, revealing and creating new meaning through blackout poetry. Transform everyday found text into surreal prose or poetry, unveiling different meanings and new points of view.
As part of our mission to be ambitiously inclusive, this programme is free to all and art materials will be provided. MOCA’s first floor will also be open free-of-charge to all participants to explore Jessica Stockholder’s vibrant exhibition A Squared Circle: Ringing, as well as Justin Ming Yong’s installation Blur.
This programme is intended for adults, seniors and teens. We recommend families with young children stop by for our TD Community Sundays for kid-friendly tours and activities each month.
Please note: For this Art Hive, please enter through the back (by Forno Cultura) and use the elevator to access Floor 3. Art Hive takes place on Mondays, outside of MOCA’s regular hours. Seating is limited to 50 people and is on a first-come first-serve basis. Stop by and explore your creative side!
What is an Art Hive?
Art Hives provide free, community art-making spaces open to everyone, aiming to foster a welcoming environment for all participants. You don’t need to have any experience making art to join.
This programme draws from the research and practice of Dr. Janis Timm-Bottos, a professor at Concordia University. Learn more about Art Hives here.
About the Facilitators
Each session will be led by graduate students at the Toronto Art Therapy Institute who will facilitate a supportive space for self-expression and creativity. These students will be supported by the MOCA Learning team.
