Join virtual architects and developers Andy Bako and Niko McGlashan from the comfort of your home in an Open Conversation taking place in Mozilla Hubs on GTA360. This platform is a digital realm for online experimentation by artists and a space where you can meet others virtually and engage in conversations around the hosted works. The programme will take place between 7-8 PM and participants may join the conversation at any time. Viewers are welcome and encouraged to ask questions via chat or through the microphone setting.
Designed by Bako and McGlashan as a digital deconstruction of MOCA, the platform includes specially conceived works by artists exhibiting in the GTA21 exhibition at the Museum, including: Common Accounts, Ghazaleh Avarzamani, Jesse Chun, Jennifer Rose Sciarrino, Native Art Department International, Nour Bishouty, Sahar Te and the Collective of Parastoo Anoushahpour, Faraz Anoushapour and Ryan Ferko.
Biographies
Andy Bako is a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Toronto and holds a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design with Distinction. Andy was the recipient of the Harvard GSD 2019 Digital Design Prize for his Master’s Thesis project, “Normal House”. Andy’s work has been featured on Kooz/Arch, SuckerPUNCHdaily, and the Hot Air Gallery in New York. Andy has contributed to international exhibitions including the “Countryside: The Future” exhibition held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
Niko McGlashan is a researcher and educator at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working at the Center for Advanced Urbanism in the School of Architecture and Planning. At the Center, he designs and develops toolkits for architects, planners, and designers to leverage data and computation in novel ways. For his Master of Architecture thesis at the University of Toronto, he designed a multiplayer video game that reflected on the growing intersection of architecture, Esports, and contemporary media culture. Most recently, he assisted in the creation and exhibition of creating and exhibiting a virtual environment for the Canada Pavilion at the 2021 Venice Biennale.
