The activities originally scheduled for Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 now take place on Thursday, July 21 and Friday, July 22 respectively.

This programme was initially developed in partnership with The Concerned Kids, a non-profit which is no longer in operation. This programme is now presented in partnership with TCK’s parent organization, The Drag Academy.

Join MOCA for its first iteration of Summer Break Programming from Wednesday, July 6 to Friday, July 22. This series of programmes is brought to you in partnership with The Drag Academy. Each day will bring forth a new activity, developed in association with TCK’s Creatability programme and has a focus on emotional wellness. Each activity is inspired by the current exhibitions at MOCA including; Jeffrey Gibson’s I AM YOUR RELATIVE, Shirin Neshat’s Land of Dreams, Felix Gonzalez Torres’s Winter and Xuan Ye’s It Takes Spirals to Feed the Spiral.

The Concerned Kids was a non-profit organization dedicated to educating children about important social issues through uniquely developed arts activities.

The mission of The Drag Academy is to provide educational workshops that explore the art of drag; provide a platform and opportunities for drag kings, drag queens and drag creatures; and leave a legacy in the community by supporting 2SLGBTQ+ initiatives.

Zantangles
Wednesday, March 16, 12:00 – 4:00 pm

The goal of this activity is to practice technical learning, taking our time, and creating new patterns. This activity is inspired by the practice of Zentangle drawings, an American form of drawing, that promotes creativity and personal well-being by combining the principles of meditation and the elements and principles of design.

Pinch Pots
Thursday, July 7, 12:00 – 4:00 pm

The goal of this activity is to explore as a group what it feels like to make space for ourselves and to think more closely about the space we offer to others. Participants will create their own personal clay pinch pot to hold space for their dreams, goals, feelings, and aspirations.

Loved One's Collage
Friday, July 8, 12:00 – 4:00 pm

Participants will create a personal storyboard collage of their loved ones or loved places using photos, images, or magazine pictures. Participants can create a visual representation of the things that bring them peace and joy, such as their home, their aspirations, and the important people and places in their lives.

Mask Making
Thursday, July 21, 12:00 – 4:00 pm

This exercise will require participants to reflect on their authentic selves and the way in which they present to the world around them. On the outside of the mask, participants will create a depiction of their experience from the external eye. On the inside of the mask, participants will create a visual representation of their truest selves. Will the two sides be cohesive; or will an obvious divide be present? Following the activity, the Drag Academy Facilitator will invite the participants to share their creations and begin a conversation around identity, expression, and celebration of differences.

Group Quilt
Friday, July 22, 12:00 – 4:00 pm

Participants will each create two identical personalized quilt squares that represent their authentic selves. The Drag Academy will keep 1 quilt square from each participant that will then be sewn together as a visual representation of the allyship and community building of the group.
