Join us for the third instalment of our Friday Night Performance Series where Katie Adams-Gossage will present I’ll clean out my bowl, a new work that probes the intricate intelligence of the human body as it engages with the immediacy of the present moment.
Adams-Gossage pulls from a tenderly crafted movement vocabulary in order to spontaneously generate choreography that spotlights sensitivity, impulse, essence, and agency. She conceptualizes I’ll clean out my bowl as a visual art piece that employs physicality as its medium, resides fleetingly inside of MOCA’s industrial frame, and soaks viewers in awareness of their own autonomy.
About the Artist
Katie Adams-Gossage (she/her) is a dance artist originally from Montreal, now collaborating, creating, performing, and leading in Toronto. She feels most at home in her personal practice: an improvisational universe that integrates contemporary techniques with introspection, composition, honesty, and exchange. She is committed to a holistic dance philosophy and consequently centres education, performance, process, relationships, and social context in equal measure. Her interests in history, production, and pedagogy have garnered Adams-Gossage roles as a production associate with Dancetheatre David Earle, rehearsal assistant with Rock Bottom Movement, and class demonstrator at STDT, Toronto Metropolitan University, and Canada’s National Ballet School. She leads regular improvisational classes in Toronto’s professional contemporary dance community.
Rakeem Hardy (they/them) is a black, queer, agender dance artist originally from Toronto, Canada. They received their BFA and the Thayer Fellowship Award from the State University of New York at Purchase College. They have performed works by Ohad Naharin, Doug Varone, Sidra Bell, Norbert De La Cruz III, and Roderick George. They received additional training at the Taipei National University of the Arts, as well at Springboard Danse Montreal where they performed pieces by Crystal Pite, Alejandro Cerrudo, and Aszure Barton. Rakeem has collaborated and performed with A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, Collectif LA TRESSE, Loni Landon Dance Projects, and Gallim Dance. Rakeem is a current member of the Vancouver-based company, Kidd Pivot.
Reece Caldwell (he/they) is a Toronto based emerging contemporary LGBTQ+ dance artist. Originally from Peterborough ON, Reece is currently interested in contemporary performance, collaboration, choreography, and improvisation, with a growing love for floor work, partnering, and multimedia creation. A graduate of York University’s BFA dance program specializing in performance and choreography, Reece has been able to study under professional dance artists including Syreeta Hector, Susan Lee, and Tracey Norman. Reece is excited to create and cultivate collaborative works, looking forward to the future as an emerging-artist with values closely focused and aligned with equity, community, and inclusivity.
Free Friday Night Performance Series
MOCA will be activating our Free Friday Nights powered by Scotiabank every month on select Fridays throughout the fall 2023 exhibition season.
